Over the years, Puerto Vallarta has proudly positioned itself as “Gay Friendly” destination, position which is strengthened year by year. It is because of this, the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) community decided to hold it’s first annual Gay Pride weekend in this luscious city, from the 24th to the 26th of May. The events and festivities were supported and sponsored by Puerto Vallarta’s city hall, clubs, bars, hotels, restaurants all from the Romantic Zone, and your very own Palmera Vacations!
Pride Weekend consisted of extensive amounts of events, with opening and closing ceremonies, the coronation of the Gay Pride Queen 2013, symbolical weddings, an underwear parade, art expos, and the official Gay Pride Parade. The funds that were raised were to benefit the SETAC, the Asilo San Juan Diego A.C., and the The Santa Barbara Physical Rehabilitation Clinic of Vallarta AC.
The events held from the 24th through the 26th had a few goals in mind; to unite the community and raise awareness for gay rights, and to promote Puerto Vallarta as a Gay tourist destination. All involved were very pleased with the outcome of this landmark event and the reaction among the community was a very positive one. Without a doubt, this is the first of many Vallarta Prides!
