Turtles SeasonIt’s incredible to think of all eventualities that occur in Puerto Vallarta, especially when they are natural events which results impossible not to notice, such as the arrival of the turtles to the bay. Of the eight varieties of sea turtles in the world seven of them reach the Mexican coast and two species are endemic to Mexico, which means they are only found here and nowhere else in the world, the Kemp’s Ridley (Lepidochelys kempii ) in the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Green Turtle (Chelonia agassizi) whose nesting area is in the state of Michoacán.

The Olive Ridley Turtle (Lepidochelys Olivacea) known locally as “Caguama” in Mexico is distributed along the Pacific coast including the Sea of ​​Cortez, being one of the most important for breeding and conservation of this species.

It is important to note that all sea turtle species are endangered and that’s why they are strictly protected, and here in Puerto Vallarta are some camps responsible for the protection, care and release of turtles, some hotels also have this kind of events where you can be a participant.

In your next vacation, bring your kids to a turtle camp, teach them or allow a person with the knowledge to talk to them about these incredible creatures of the sea. Participate in liberation of baby turtles and experience that feeling of protection and conservation over the species.
